or maybe some combination?

Questions:
  • Do we have something for the curriculum areas to work on during their time? The core areas should be OK but what about the others?
  • Do we need a closing?
  • Do we want to have the curriculum areas eat lunch together.

Yes, we will start at 8:30 with a general session with first concurrent by 9:00 or so.
Lunch will be at around 12:00 - but we could stagger them as well if it works better.

We usually have a general session at 2:30 and wrapped up by 3:00.

We are in Exeter and once we have the schedule we'll have to assign rooms.

Toby - Because I will not be able to make it to the BR Cohort Sups planning meeting on the 26th, you had asked me to send you a description of some sessions I'd be willing to provide. Attached are 4 descriptions. The ones that I need to do (because I had already promised Dorchester, McCool, and Shickley) are sessions #1 and #2 on Treasures Routines (program specific). The other sessions listed (#3, #4, #5) are optional and I'd be willing to facilitate any of them based upon needs and what other people are planning to present. I think Shickley would probably appreciate a 3rd session on Treasures since they've not officially been trained and I didn't have any open dates. But, it's whatever you and the sups think.

Also, I spoke with Laura Kroll and she said that some of her teachers would be willing to lead some sessions focused on engaging students with Reading Mastery to offset the Treasures sessions and make sure that E-M and Friend elementary teachers have some options. She's going to have a staff meeting with them today and ask them to put some ideas together.

Blue River Cohort Sessions (9.6.11)
Presented by April Kelley

Session #1 – Engaging Students with Treasures Instructional Routines (Part 1)
The reading program Treasures provides us with effective instructional routines that are often overlooked when thinking about engaging students. Come to this session to learn about the built-in instructional routines from Treasures that will help you use the program more effectively. Routines discussed during this session will be centered around these big ideas: phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, and high frequency words.

Session #2 – Engaging Students with Treasures Instructional Routines (Part 2)
Continue learning about more Treasures instructional routines that are built into the program to keep students engaged. Routines discussed during this session will be centered around these big ideas: fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and general classroom management.

Session #3 – Treasures Tips
Come listen to a panel of elementary teachers talk about what they learned after using the Treasures reading program their first year. They’ll share the ins and outs of engaging students with the program as well as answer questions.

Session #4 – Increasing Student Engagement Through Responses
Are you looking for simple ways to engage 100% of your students? Join us during this session to learn how to get all students to respond in class. We’ll learn about the basic types of student responses (choral, partner, written, and individual) and important tips on using them effectively.

Session #5 – Ipods & Ipads Make Learning Fun
During this session we learn about various apps you can use to make learning fun and engage more of your students. Walk away from this session with an updated list of April’s Favorite Apps. If you have an ipod or ipad, bring it with you. Otherwise, we’ll have a few available for anyone to use that does not have one.
